Business phone system · self-hosted
Your phones, your server, no per-minute markup.
Quaver Desk is a complete phone system for small teams. Answer calls in the browser, on a desk phone or on your mobile, route them with opening hours, ring groups and menus, and get voicemail by email. It runs on your own server and connects to any SIP trunk, so you only pay your provider for calls.
Free for up to 3 users. No card, no key, no time limit.
Platform fees per minute
Run it yourself and calls go straight from your server to your SIP trunk. Your provider bills you for calls, and we don't add a penny on top.
Your data, on your server
Run it yourself and recordings, voicemail and call history stay on hardware you control, encrypted at rest. Nothing is sent to us.
Per site, not per seat
Licences are priced by the size of your team in simple bands, so adding a person doesn't change the bill until you move up a band.
Features
Everything a small office needs from its phones
Built for teams of 2 to 100 people who want a proper phone system without a monthly bill per person.
Phone in the browser
An installable phone app that runs in the background, with call notifications, click-to-call and tel: links. Nothing to install on each computer.
Desk phones and mobile apps
Standard SIP desk phones (Yealink, Poly, Grandstream) and mobile apps such as Groundwire ring alongside the browser. Always encrypted.
Transfer, hold and park
Transfer straight away or talk first, hold with your own music, and park calls on **1 to **9 for anyone to pick up.
Opening hours and menus
Each number follows its own hours. Send callers to a person, a ring group, a "press 1 for sales" menu or voicemail.
Ring groups and follow-me
Ring a team all at once or in turn. Calls can ring your own mobile too, with "press 1 to accept" so they never land in your personal voicemail.
Voicemail to email
Messages arrive in your inbox with the recording attached, and with a transcript and summary on Plus and Pro.
Call recording
Record by number with a spoken notice to callers. Recordings are encrypted on your server and deleted on your schedule. Emergency calls are never recorded.
AI with your own account
Transcripts and summaries of calls and voicemail, plus action items and caller sentiment on Pro. You connect your own AI provider, so you pay it directly.
Secure by default
Two-factor sign-in for admins, passkeys, encrypted phones, limits on outside calls to stop fraud, and 999 calls that are never blocked.
How it works
Up and running in an afternoon
Quaver Desk is a web app with its own FreeSWITCH voice server. You run both on one small Linux server or virtual machine, in your office or in the cloud.
Install it on your server
Follow the step-by-step guide on GitHub for Debian or Ubuntu. A virtual machine with 2 cores and 4 GB of memory comfortably runs a small office.
Connect your SIP trunk
Use the trunk wizard for Twilio, Gamma, BT, Simwood, Voiceflex or any other UK provider. Keep your numbers with them and pay only for the calls you make.
Add your team
Invite people by email, choose where each number rings, and you're taking calls. Add a licence key when you want Plus or Pro features.

Questions
Frequently asked
Do I have to change my phone provider?
No. Quaver Desk works with any SIP trunk, so you can keep your current provider if they offer one, or choose a new one such as Twilio, Gamma, BT, Simwood or Voiceflex. Your numbers stay with your provider.
What do I need to run it?
A Linux server or virtual machine (Debian 12 or Ubuntu 24.04) that can be reached from the internet, a domain name, and a SIP trunk. The guide on GitHub covers the whole set-up, including the voice server, certificates and backups.
Can I try it before I buy?
Yes. The Free plan needs no licence key and has no time limit. It makes and takes real calls for up to 3 people, so you can see how it works for you before upgrading.
What happens when my team grows?
When you add a person beyond your band, your admin pages offer to move you up to the next one, and the new key is applied straight away. You only pay the difference for the rest of the billing period.
What happens if I stop paying?
Your key keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for, then your system falls back to the Free plan. Nothing is deleted, and you can upgrade again at any time.
Can I see the code?
Yes. Quaver Desk is source-available under the Elastic License 2.0: you can read the code, run it for your own organisation and change it. You can't offer it to others as a hosted service. Paid features are unlocked with a licence key.
Who sees my calls and recordings?
If you run it yourself, only you: everything is stored on your server, with recordings and transcripts encrypted. If we host it for you, it is stored encrypted on our UK servers and we only use it to provide the service. Either way, if you turn on AI features, call audio goes to the AI provider you choose, using your own account.
Can I call 999?
Yes. Emergency calls are never blocked or recorded, and go out through your SIP trunk. But Quaver Desk depends on your server, internet connection and trunk provider, so it is not a replacement for a landline or mobile for emergencies. Make sure your provider has your correct address for caller location.
Self-hosted software, provided as is. You run Quaver Desk on your own server and are responsible for keeping it updated, secure and backed up. Please read the disclaimer before relying on it.
